| This is the time to
dig up, divide and re-plant perennial plants
that have been left to it for a few years
for future healthy growth and more and better
blooms. It's a good time to plant hedges
or shrubs and trees (camellias, azaleas,
conifers, shrubs, roses, rhododendrons).
Make sure your seed trays and pots are
scrubbed clean and disease-free &
start the first sowings in a heated propagator
of summer bedding. Those needing an early
start include petunias, geraniums, Busy
Lizzies and nicotianas.
If you haven't ordered your seeds yet
- do it now as time goes fast.
Tomatoes and some other Mediterranean
fruits and vegetables can be sown during
February in a greenhouse. Make sure to
use a seed or multi-purpose compost.
Certain early vegetable varieties such
as Amsterdam carrots can already be sown
outside - but be careful to cover this
with fleece when night frost is expected.
By the end of Feb you can start sowing
your herbs & salads.
Scarify and spike your lawns; clear left
over leaves to encourage healthy growth.
Propagate shrubs & perennials by taking
hardwood or root cuttings.
Happy gardening - it's springtime soon. |
